Transition Information

The transition cycle begins in September, with visits to our local feeder schools to deliver literature advertising our Open Evening.

During our Open Evening there is an opportunity for prospective students and parents to visit the school to meet key staff, take a tour of the multi million pound building and find out more about the curriculum and different subject areas at North Chadderton School.

Each year parents make an application to the LA by the 31st October.

Students and parents are informed of their allocated secondary school in March. We then write to our new parents/carers to formally invite them to attend our Year 6 Admissions Evening, which is held every May. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to welcome our new students and reassure them if they have any worries, questions or queries regarding the move to secondary school.

During the summer term the Year 7 team will start to visit students in their primary school setting. This is to give them further details regarding the move to secondary school as well as to answer any questions/ concerns the students may have. It also provides an opportunity for a useful dialogue to take place between the staff in the primary and secondary schools. At this time our SEND students begin familiarisation visits to the school. They will meet key staff and begin to understand the geography of the building and the demands of the timetable. Dialogue between all relevant parties is of prime importance. We aim to ensure that all students are 'secondary ready' and endeavour to put into place appropriate interventions for students for whom this may not be the case.

In the second half of the summer term all students attend the school for 2 New Intake Days where they experience 2 days as North Chadderton students, meet their academic tutor and new form group and take part in 'taster lessons' in the curriculum areas they will be studying the following September.

If there are any questions or queries regarding any aspect of the KS2-3 transition process at North Chadderton please contact Mrs Walker, Director of KS3.
